The Fly Masha
Color serigraph, reworked in pencil, on light cardboard. 1992.
19.5 x 27.5 cm (20 x 28.5 cm).
Signed "I. Kabakov" and dated. Edition 100 num. Ex.

This color screenprint was created in 1992 as part of the exhibition “The Life of Flies” at the Kölnischer Kunstverein. It depicts a recurring motif in Kabakov's work: the fly. As early as 1986, the artist couple Ilya and Emilia Kabakov focused on a paper fly hanging from the ceiling with the installation "Concert for a Fly (Chamber music)", first performed in 1993. The extensive collection of documents surrounding the tiny subject criticizes not only Soviet society in a cynical and nihilistic way.
